The Rah-e Madanyat Daily is one of the most read newspapers of Afghanistan founded in 2011 in Kabul. The newspaper has several columnists consist of professional writers and university professors who voluntarily writes on various topics with a general goal of strengthening the rule of law and increase awareness on citizens’ rights and civic values. It is an independent newspaper with no affiliation with any political party or groups.
The founder of the newspaper is Sayed Asghar Eshraq who works at the same time as the Chief Editor of the newspaper too. He has started working as Managing Director with the students’ weekly (Andish-e Mohasel) in Kabul Education University and continued as Chief Editor of (Andish-e Mahaser) afterwards.
As the newspaper takes the issues related to women’s rights seriously, a separate section is allocated for women which is led by prominent female writers such as Dr. Humaria Qaderi, Dr. Dina Mohseni and Sahra Maani. Hence, “The Successful Women” has been one of the inclusive series of Rah-e Madanyat which has published more than 80 interviews with successful women of all walks of life in Afghanistan. In this section, the interviews have been published in a way, which highlights the value of individual and social liberties for women, emphasize on their political participation and represent them as role models in the society. A year later after its successful implementation, this section was financially supported by the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (HBS) and the interviews were published under the title of (From Covert Struggle to Political Participation) in English and Dari. In addition to these interviews, a dialogue was also launched under the name of “Young Politicians” in collaboration with the HBS focusing on young politicians who began their careers mostly in the 2000s. The dialogue was concentrated on modern politics and women’s role in the reconciliation processes and security matters.
In Afghanistan’s media and press history, the Rah-e Madanyat was the first newspaper which was succeeded to win the fourth position by nominating its cartoon (https://madanyatonline.com/9-239/) under the title of “No Corruption!” in the United Nations’ Cartoon Contest (http://www.lurieunaward.com/2016winners_wl.php) in 2016.
The newspaper is increasingly welcomed by readers for its diversity in publishing a wide range of topics as well as its professional design available in 8 pages and A3 format.
